We all feel similar about the rights that we possess. As members of a civilized society we accept that we have many rights and responsibilities that we seem to take for granted. However, we are very quick to defend those who have their rights removed and will rejoice once retribution has been found. When, on the other hand, the subject turns to animals the nation becomes very split. There are many who believe that animals have no rights; that we live in a predator society where the prey is there to be used as food or as a product to best suit our needs. There are others who believe that animals have as many rights to life as we do and so abstain from eating meat or using products deriving from animals. Some feel so strongly that they feel they need to demonstrate against the use of animals. These people often turn to PETA; an organization that aims to ensure that animals have their rights protected.

Many celebrities have joined the organization which has helped to raise its profile a lot and has provided much needed funding to a charity that is in desperate need for money. One such celebrity was Dominique Swain. At the age of just 21 she became the youngest spokesperson for the organization and became an integral part of their advertising; posing nude saying she’d rather go nude than wear fur. However, she was recently in the headlines for selling her values; she was caught leaving puppies at an animal shelter.
